Rita Kampalath, Chair

Rita Kampalath is the Chief Sustainability Officer for the County of Los Angeles. Prior to her time with the County, Rita served as the Science and Policy Director of Heal The Bay, an environmental group working to make Santa Monica Bay and Southern California coastal waters and watersheds safe for people and marine life.

Rita earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University and a M.S. & Ph.D. from UCLA in Chemical Engineering and Civil/Environmental Engineering. Her doctoral research focused on toxic mercury in the environment. She previously worked as an environmental engineer for Geosyntec Consultants on stormwater pollution and the U.S. Air Force in environmental and safety policy compliance.

Miki Esposito, Vice Chair

Miki Esposito is Assistant Director of Los Angeles County Public Works. She oversees the areas of Construction Management and Municipal Services (which includes Emergency Management). She also leads the Resilience and Sustainability initiatives for Public Works. With an annual budget of more than $3.6 billion and a workforce of 4,000 employees, Los Angeles County Public Works is the largest municipal public works agency in the United States, providing vital public infrastructure and services to more than 10 million people across a 4,000-square-mile service area.

Miki’s career is highlighted by extensive government experience in executive leadership and senior management roles at the local and state level. She previously served as the Director of Transportation and Utilities for the City of Lincoln, Nebraska and most recently, as Senior Policy Advisor to the Lincoln Mayor. A native of Oceanside, California, Miki brings expertise in natural resources and environmental law and policy, with a Juris Doctorate from Washburn University School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Baker University.
