Safer Roads Ahead
$152 Million Secured for California’s Transportation
Senator Alex Padilla announced that 51 California projects have received over $152 million through the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program including a $29.8M award to the County of Los Angeles for implementation of the LA County Vision Zero Action Plan. These funds, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, aim to enhance roadway safety statewide, targeting pedestrian, cyclist, and commuter safety through infrastructural improvements. The grants will support various initiatives including high-visibility crosswalks, protected bike lanes, and comprehensive traffic calming measures across different California communities.

Charging Ahead
$15 Million for Equitable EV Infrastructure in Los Angeles County
Metro, Los Angeles County, and the City of Los Angeles have secured $15 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Program to supercharge the region’s EV infrastructure. The “Charging Up: Bringing Equitable Charging to Los Angeles County” project will install 18 DC Fast Chargers and 1,263 Level 2 chargers at 15 community locations, including park-and-ride hubs, public library parking lots, and 1,000 curbside light poles. This initiative targets underserved and Justice40 communities, driving forward equity and sustainability while generating around 3,000 high-quality jobs for installation and maintenance. Los Angeles County is charging ahead toward a greener, more connected future.

Driving Down Emissions
$800 Million for Low Carbon Transportation Materials
The U.S. Department of Transportation has launched the Low Carbon Transportation Materials Grants program with $800 million in funding, part of President Biden’s historic Inflation Reduction Act. Administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), this program supports the use of low-carbon materials in transportation projects, aiming to cut greenhouse gas emissions and reduce air pollution. Funding will help local agencies quantify emissions, use cleaner materials, and develop low-embodied carbon specifications, paving the way for a greener, more sustainable future in LA County’s transportation network.
