There are less than 100 days left until September 30, 2021—when the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act expires. Congress must act soon to continue funding federal highway and public transportation programs, transportation research, intercity passenger rail, and other programs.
Currently there are several infrastructure proposals being debated by lawmakers that may be consolidated into one final infrastructure package:
- The Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework
- S. 1931, the Surface Transportation Reauthorization Act
- S. 914, the Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Act
- H.R. 3684, the INVEST Act
Last week the House passed H.R. 3684, the INVEST Act by a vote of 221-201. $44 billion in additional investments were added during the amendment process bringing the total to $715 billion in proposed surface transportation and water infrastructure spending.
|Roads, Bridges, and Safety||$343 billion|
|Passenger and Freight Rail||$95 billion|
|Drinking Water Infrastructure and Assistance||$117 billion|
|Wastewater Infrastructure||$51.5 billion|
